The site was excavated in 1938/39 and two rooms, with walls standing up to a metre high were cleared. A small hypocaust was found, which had been filled in during a later phase. Most intriguingly, 80 skeletons (Anglo Saxon ?) were found laid at random throughout the building, with no pattern as would be expected in a cemetery.

A cropmark of a short approach lane to the villa  has been seen on aerial photos. The site is as on the English Heritage “At Risk” register.
