A roman tesselated floor was apparently discovered here in 1817, although there is no visible trace today, and no Roman finds are known from the site since the early 19th century. However, another mosaic was discovered in 1823 apparently on the adjacent farm at Roughborough (place name significant?) and so it is possible that there has been some confusion about the location.
